Infinum and Hrvatski Telekom Built the EV Charging Solution Drivers Reach for First

In collaboration with Hrvatski Telekom, we transformed their EV charging solution from a functional tool into a modern, seamless experience designed to lead the market.

Hrvatski Telekom isn’t new to building digital infrastructure.

Through its eMobility initiative, HT operates over 250 charging locations across Croatia – managing about a third of all public chargers in the country.

As EV adoption accelerates across Europe, their existing app, espoTs, gave users what they needed to get started. But in a market where drivers run multiple charging apps in parallel, the basics aren’t enough to earn the first tap.

While most competitors were converging on near-identical white-label solutions, HT saw an opening: not just to raise the bar, but to own the category.

FIND, CHARGE, PAY – A new, SEAMLESS charging EXPERIENCE FOR EV DRIVERS

The project brought together three organisations – Hrvatski Telekom, Infinum, and a backend provider managing charging infrastructure across Europe.

Infinum guided product strategy, UX, and engineering through an intensive discovery phase of workshops, journey mapping, and user research – all before a single screen was designed.

Infinum’s professional approach and ability to see the bigger picture are impressive.

The result is an app rebuilt around one principle: get out of the driver’s way.

“Most charging apps look the same because they start from the same place — a white-label solution with the logo swapped out,” – said Kristijan Trbojević, Infinum’s Project Manager.

We started building the solution with drivers in mind. What do they actually need to find a charger, start a session, and pay without friction? That question drove every decision, from the discovery phase all through to launch.

Find, pay, charge

Finding a charger now means the app detecting your location, surfacing nearby stations and roaming partners across Europe, and filtering results automatically based on your vehicle.

Key information – price per kWh, connector types, busy hours – is visible before you even start navigating.

Payments work with a tap, via credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, replacing the prepaid card system that required manual top-ups. And once you’re charging, real-time session data keeps you informed throughout.

The entire build ran on Flutter, delivering native-quality iOS and Android apps from a single codebase – cutting estimated development effort by 40% compared to building two separate native apps.

The result is faster release cycles, lower maintenance overhead, and a consistent experience across platforms.

The new app doesn’t just work better, it looks the part. A modern visual identity reflects HT’s ambition in the e-mobility space.

Accessibility was designed in from the start: colour contrast, readability, and navigation clarity were considered on every screen from the first sketch, not bolted on at the end.

Early user feedback since launch has been consistently positive, with users pointing to a noticeable improvement in the overall experience.

Infinum didn’t just listen and deliver – they invested the effort to build expertise, research the market and competition, and help us shape the service. This was a new experience for us.
