Infinum Delivered Allianz’s Self-Service Insurance Platform in Four Months

When Allianz’s existing app hit its ceiling, they needed a partner who could move fast and think ahead. Take a look at how we shipped the new solution in just four months.

Insurance hasn’t changed that much in decades. The policies, the premiums, the paperwork – the fundamentals are familiar. What has changed is the customer standing on the other side of them.

Allianz knows this better than most. One of the world’s leading insurers, with 136 years of experience across more than 70 markets, has built a reputation that holds. But a strong brand doesn’t insulate you from a weak app.

Their existing mobile solution covered the basics – and stopped there. Customers who needed to check a policy, track a claim, or make a payment were redirected to the web. Extra steps where users expected taps.

In a market where every other app had already raised the bar on self-service, the gap was becoming impossible to ignore. Allianz’s goal was clear: turn every interaction into a simple tap.

The requirements were clear: significantly improve ux across the board, increase the utility of the solution, and set a foundation for the next phases – all while moving fast without sacrificing quality.

Building alongside the brief, not waiting for it

It is common for vendors to begin work only after the specification has been fully defined. Allianz’s approach was different.

When they approached Infinum, the initial brief was deliberately left open. The direction was set – reduce friction, increase digital adoption, give customers real control — but the detailed requirements evolved as the project progressed. They needed a partner who could build alongside that process.

This is not how most software vendors operate. The industry default is a complete specification upfront: functional, technical, documented. Only then does the build begin.

For clients going through digital transformation in complex, regulated industries, it creates a familiar problem – by the time the spec is done, something has already changed. Allianz opted for a team that could build alongside an evolving brief without losing direction, quality, or momentum.

The client shapes the product, but so does the partner – by asking the right questions, flagging implications, and bringing perspective from similar projects in similar industries

Infinum is a partner who doesn’t just deliver solutions, but actively contributes to their quality and long-term value.

In practice, the partnership wasn’t a vendor executing a handover, but a team embedded in the process – moving as the requirements moved without losing the thread.

From existing product to production-ready platform

Infinum took over an existing Flutter codebase and tackled three goals in parallel: a modern design aligned with Allianz brand standards, an intuitive self-service experience, and a scalable architecture ready for what comes next.

The result was a production-ready platform delivered four months after kickoff.

The redesign introduced digital insurance cards – each policy type gets its own color-coded card, visually distinct and immediately recognizable, with key details surfaced at a glance. It’s the kind of detail that turns a functional screen into something users actually want to open.

Complex coverage made simple – with visually distinct, immediately recognizable cards featuring key details at a glance.

Self-service capabilities now let customers do directly in the app what previously required a call or a visit to the web: biometric login, policy and coverage overview, claims submission and tracking.

All insurance information is now accessible anytime – Fast, secure, and with no friction at the front door.

Accessibility was a product decision, not a compliance task. Infinum’s dedicated accessibility team ran structured reviews throughout the project, building interfaces that work for every user, including the ones most digital products quietly leave behind.

Designing for every user – while remaining fully aligned with allianz brand standards.

Safe to scale

The architecture was modular and scalable from the start. A single Flutter codebase serves both iOS and Android without compromising on performance or native experience.

The next stage is already underway. Straight-through processing will let users adjust their coverage directly as their circumstances change, and a loyalty program built into the app will reward long-term customers and personalize the experience in ways the previous platform couldn’t support.

What began as a platform rebuild is becoming something larger: the place where the relationship between Allianz and its customers actually lives.
