A trusted pension provider sets out to transform member experience

Modra zavarovalnica is a leading provider of supplementary pension insurance in Slovenia, dedicated to creating accessible financial solutions that strengthen individuals’ social security throughout all stages of life and managing savings for more than 300,000 members.

Committed to continuously improving user experience, Modra set out to expand their communication channels and give members greater control over their pension savings through a digital platform available 24/7.

Empowering pension savers through digital self-service

In 2024, in collaboration with Modra zavarovalnica, we built a Flutter mobile app designed to make pension savings management simple and transparent. Following the successful mobile rollout, the partnership expanded in 2025 with a Flutter web app, bringing the same experience to browsers while reusing the existing codebase.

Together, the mobile and web apps form a self-service customer portal — a single, secure entry point for all services and information related to supplementary pension insurance.

For Modra, the portal has quickly become the primary channel for customer engagement and service delivery, strengthening long-term relationships with members, reducing operational costs, and reinforcing the company’s position as a modern, digitally mature insurance provider.

Laying a foundation
for user-centric experience

Discovery workshop

Before diving into code and design, we organized a workshop with Modra’s stakeholders to align on the product vision, define the MVP scope, and establish a delivery timeline. 

User interviews

We interviewed Modra’s pension savers to better understand their needs and expectations. The insights helped us define user personas and guide UX decisions that make the app clear, intuitive, and easy to use.

Come in, we’re always open

Modra now has a digital branch that’s open 24/7, on any device. Users can access their pension savings from a laptop at work, a phone on the go, or a home computer in the evening.

Pension savings in users’ hands

Users can add or remove beneficiaries, track investment performance, manage documents, adjust their investment strategy, and make additional contributions to their pension — all by themselves.

Real-time overview of savings

No more waiting for a statement in the mail. Users can check their total fund value, investment performance, fund and sub-fund details, and estimated monthly annuity whenever they want, and watch their pension assets grow over time.

Multiple secure login methods

The app supports several authentication methods: Rekono, eModra credentials, or an Identification Code, so Modra members can sign in the way that works best for them.

Turning data into insight

The app puts two powerful planning tools in every Modra member’s pocket. Tax and pension calculators break down complex calculations into simple, interactive insights, so users can make informed decisions about their financial future.

Designing tech for the
non-tech savvy

Many Modra members are not digitally savvy and are used to communication via traditional channels. That’s why clarity became the foundation of the UX strategy. 



To avoid information overload, we designed the app around one principle: “show as little as possible, as much as necessary.” We focused on simple navigation, familiar interaction patterns, and a visual hierarchy that guides members through the experience naturally, with help screens and contextual explanations ready whenever they need a hand.

Accessibility is a priority

A pension insurance platform has one of the widest user age ranges of any digital product. That comes with a responsibility to get accessibility right.

Following WCAG 2.2 digital accessibility guidelines, we improved color contrast, optimized touch target sizes, and refined UI elements to ensure every user, regardless of age or ability, feels the platform was built with them in mind.

One codebase, multiple platforms

Leveraging Flutter’s power and flexibility, we built a multi-platform solution that runs on iOS, Android, and web from a single codebase.

The technology to build this kind of multi-platform solution has only recently matured, putting Modra ahead of where most of the industry still is.

Adopting this approach early meant faster development cycles, simpler long-term maintenance, and consistent experience across devices.


Flutter Web has only recently reached the maturity required for production systems at this scale. Together with Infinum, we embraced the opportunity early and invested in building a shared architecture designed to support both mobile and web from the start.

This approach accelerated development by 1.5x, but it required careful engineering. UI components had to work seamlessly across devices, adapting to different screen sizes and interaction patterns without compromising the user experience. Instead of maintaining separate implementations, we created flexible components and shared logic that behave naturally on both platforms.

A system that grows with Modra’s ambitions

To ensure performance, security, and scalability, we implemented a backend layer built with .NET. Integrated with Modra’s internal systems, it serves as a central service for managing user accounts and application processes, while separating the application layer from internal services so the platform can evolve independently and respond faster to new user and business requirements.

Optimizing cloud performance

The backend is hosted in the cloud and designed to scale with demand. With more than 300,000 potential users, autoscaling ensures the system can handle peak loads while optimizing infrastructure costs.

The future of pension insurance is AI-driven

Building on their six-year partnership, Modra and Infinum continue to evolve the platform as technology advances and member expectations grow. The long-term vision is to transform the digital customer portal from a static, screen-based interface into an intelligent, adaptive experience that supports members throughout every stage of their journey.


As AI matures, we see traditional navigation and fixed screens gradually giving way to conversational, voice-based, and context-aware interfaces that dynamically generate personalized content, guidance, and actions in real time. We see Infinum as a long-term partner in continuously translating these emerging interaction paradigms into a secure, trusted, human-centric digital experience.
